On Monday, July 25 an Arkansas woman visiting her parents in Kirbyville was struck by a vehicle while sitting on her bed.
Marcie Harrison, 44, of North Central Arkansas was staying at the home of her parents, Jacob and Annie Kauffman of Kirbyville when a vehicle crashed into her bedroom. The home is located on West Main Street.
On Monday evening around 9:30 p.m. Harrison was using her laptop computer while sitting on the edge of her bed.
"I heard tires screeching. It was very loud. The next thing I knew was everything was dark and a car crashed through my bedroom pushing me into the yard. I was laying in the back yard," said Harrison.
Annie Kauffman said, "It sounded just like a tornado. I didn't know what was happening."
Sgt. Tommy Courtney of the Kirbyville Police Department responded to the call. According to his report, Lara Andres, 42, of Kirbyville was driving a 1999 GMC Safari when he went too fast around the curve crashing into the home. He was traveling south from Highway 252.
Harrison was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont where she was treated and released. She said her injuries include a sprained right ankle and shoulder and bruised head and right leg.
Andres was found to have drug related warrants in Angelina County and was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail. He was later issued a citation for failure to control speed. He is being held without bond on charges from Angelina County. |
