The Silsbee Tiger baseball team is fielding a very young squad who started out behind other teams but has now upped its record to 6-71. The Tigers opened their season in a tough Lufkin Hudson tournament where they lost three games and tied one.

The Silsbee Tigers earned a spot in the Regional Tournament despite having a cold shooting night against Hamshire-Fannett on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The Silsbee Tigers defeated Houston Wheatley and Houston Booker T. Washington last weekend to win the Regional tournament for Region III.

The Kountze Lions defeated the Westwood Panthers in a thrilling overtime game Friday 80-74 for a chance to play in the quarterfinals. Both Kountze and Westwood had very aggressive defenses which led to an 11-point tie at the end of the first quarter.

Paul Hope and Jonah Brown have signed letters of intent to attend colleges in Texas and Arkansas. They are the 9th and 10th Tigers to sign letters this year.

James Reyes, Lumberton Raiders athletic director and head football coach for the past three years, is now on the job as the new coach and athletic director at Palestine. Reyes’ last day on the job at Lumberton was Feb.

Scoring early and often, the Lumberton Boys Soccer (8-1,11-4-3) took a 5-0 road win against LCM Friday night for their 8th district win of the season. Sophomore Andrew Hansen opened the scoring less than 10 minutes in off a pass from Jaxan Tallina (Jr).

A Palestine fan summed up the whole situation as he walked out of the gym after the Tigers battle with the Wildcats. He stated, “I thought we would win and then they started running. They ran full speed the whole game.”

The Silsbee Tigers walked into the Montagne Center in Beaumont Tuesday night, Feb. 20, on a mission to continue their playoff run. They did just that by beating the Hardin- Jefferson Hawks 8240 with a great defensive and offensive showing by the Tigers. They were to advance to the Area Round on Thursday, Feb. 22, to face the Palestine Wildcats. (See separate story) The first period started in even competition until late when the Tigers went on a run with 8 unanswered points to bust the game open with a 1912 lead over the Hawks. The Hawks were having difficulties getting anything going offensively throughout the end of the first period.
