TAMMY GRASMICK

Tamara Sue Flowers Grasmick, 55, passed away February 15, 2024, in Southlake, Texas. She was born June 22, 1968 in Prescott, Arizona to Jack and Donna Minor Flowers. She leaves behind her husband Mark Grasmick and their daughter Payton Rose of Southlake, Texas. Also surviving her are her parents, her brother Chris Flowers of Silsbee and niece Tonya Flowers of Grand Prairie, Texas, Uncle Hal Barclay, and Uncle Marc Barclay and Aunt Paula of Silsbee, cousins Brooke Klisch of Houston, Brandon Barclay of Silsbee, Heather Wise of Lumberton, Hillary Burrows of Silsbee, Eli Barclay of Durango, Colorado and numerous other family members and friends.

Tammy grew up in Silsbee, Texas and graduated from Silsbee high school in 1986, where she was a member of the Tiger band and a twirler. She attended Pinecrest Baptist Church, Silsbee. Tammy graduated from Lamar University in 1992 with a BS in psychology. She joined the US Navy in 1994, graduated from Basic Training as honor cadet and served until 2000 as a psychiatry technician. While serving, she earned her MS in Education at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.

During this time, she met Mark Grasmick, also in the Navy. They were married in 2000; she served as an active, supportive military wife. She also began her career as a high school guidance counselor. In 2005 they moved to Carrollton, Texas, where their daughter Payton Rose was born. After Mark’s 2-year tour in Hawaii and his retirement, they returned to Texas and settled in Southlake. Tammy continued her counseling career another 15 years at Southlake’s Carroll High Schools. She was dedicated to her students and worked diligently to assure their success in high school and college.

She was a devoted mother to Payton. She encouraged her in all of her endeavors, especially competitive Cheer and school cheerleading. She attended all of Payton’s competitions and games, foul weather or fair, cheering her teams on. She was able to help Payton get settled at Oklahoma University last fall.

For most of the last year, Tammy has fought a hard battle against myelofibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia at MD Anderson, Houston. Mark was devotedly at her side fighting for her all the way, with Payton joining them the last two months. On February 12 Tammy decided she wanted to go home to Southlake to say “Goodbye” to all of her friends, coworker and Cheer moms. For two days folks stopped by to express their love, respect, and appreciation for her as a counselor, coworker, and friend. It was truly an affirmation of a too-short life lived well.

On the evening of February 15 she finished her earthly journey, at home surrounded by family and friends. She leaves a big void in many lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 6 from 5-7 pm at Legends Hall, The Marq, Southlake, Texas.

A Memorial service with military honors will be held March 9 at Pinecrest Baptist Church, FM 1122, Silsbee, Texas. Visitation will be from 2-3 pm, with services starting at 3 pm.

The family is asking for happy attire at both services to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers they request donations be made to ASPCA in Tammy’s honor.
