New Year’s Day football brings out the fan in me

I am a college football fan. So in a way, News Year’s is the day that I look forward to. I became a football fan in 1964. Prior to that I never really had a lot of interest. We did not have a television so I did not grow up watching football on TV. My dad’s idea of going to a ball game was driving by and dropping me off at the stadium. We lived about a mile or two from Rancier Junior High and the Killeen High School stadium was right behind the junior high. Even in a military town like Killeen, things were pretty safe and a mile or two was nothing for a young man like myself, so I would hike home after the game.

Most Texas pregnancy deaths preventable

A long-awaited state report concludes most pregnancy-related deaths in Texas in 2019 were preventable and disproportionately affected Black women. The report, issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Committee, indicated deaths were mainly attributable to hemorrhage, mental health conditions and blood clots.
